Externships provide opportunities for veterinary students to get experience outside of their program. If you are an institution wishing to offer an externship or you are a non-LSU student seeking an externship at LSU Vet Med, fill out a form below to connect with us. 

To Offer an Externship at your facility

We invite external veterinary clinics, hospitals, and other institutions to offer externships for LSU veterinary students. These opportunities provide valuable new experiences and professional connections for our students. Please complete the form below to express interest in offering an externship opportunity to an LSU DVM student. The Office of Admissions and Student Success will review and approve the request prior to sharing with the students.

LSU Vet Med offers externship opportunities for veterinary students currently enrolled at other veterinary schools. Students interested in participating are encouraged to fill out the form below to learn more and begin the application process, which may take several weeks to complete. As part of the application, externs must provide proof of health insurance and current rabies vaccination.

International students are welcome to apply but are responsible for securing their own visas and any required documentation to enter the United States, as LSU cannot assist with this process. Please note that, in accordance with LSU Risk Management liability policies, international students may participate in observational experiences only and are not permitted to engage in hands-on clinical activities during their externship.
