To & From
Airport
We recommend that attendees fly into the Baton Rouge airport (BTR), which has connections to most international destinations through Houston or Atlanta.
Transportation from the New Orleans airport to LSU is expensive and time consuming,
and no direct public transportation is available.
The Union
The LSU Student Union is located in the center of campus, directly across from the LSU Parade Ground.
Transportation
Shuttles will be provided for transportation to and from the Union, the two conference hotels,
and offsite events. For getting around town, renting a vehicle is recommended, as
well as use of Uber and Lyft. The on-campus Cook Hotel is but a half-mile walk through campus to the Student Union, where the conference
will take place.

Enjoy the LSU Campus – A Botanical Joy
Explore the campus and see why architect and author Thomas A. Gaines describes it as a “botanical joy”
in his book The Campus as a Work of Art (Praeger, 1991). Stroll beneath its 1,200 live oaks, and along paths lined with magnolia
trees, azaleas, camellias, and many other varieties of plants that thrive in the subtropical
climate of South Louisiana. The campus architecture may look familiar to many. In
1920, the Olmsted Brothers, who had previously designed the campus of Stanford University,
chose a similar design for LSU, with the pantile roofs, archways, and stucco walls
indicative of the Northern Italian Renaissance style.
Stick around Baton Rouge
Located along the east bank of the Mississippi River, approximately 79 miles upriver
from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, founded in 1699, is the capital city of Louisiana.
French explorers named the area le bâton rouge after spotting a red post marking the hunting ground boundary between the Houma and
Bayagula tribes. Often overshadowed by our flamboyant neighbor down the river, the Red Stick has lots to offer (especially to foodies).
Explore South Louisiana
We hope you spend a few days before or after the conference experiencing Louisiana’s
unique culture. Here are just a few ideas for half-day excursions or day trips:
Geaux NOLA: Only a 90-minute drive from the LSU campus, this international tourist destination needs no introduction.
Geaux Cajun: Lafayette and the Acadiana region (approximately one-hour drive) – the heart of Cajun culture and cuisine.
Geaux Fish: Louisiana is known internationally as the “Sportsman’s Paradise.”
Geaux Birding: Located along the Mississippi Flyway, the Pelican State is a birder’s dream destination, even in fall.
What does "geaux" mean, anyway?
"Geaux" is a playful spelling of the word "go" inspired by the Cajun French spelling of words and names that end in "eaux," pronounced "oh."
