Geaux Film

Each academic year, the School of Theatre funds one to three departmental film projects as a way for students to gain more real-world experience in each phase of the filmmaking process. Students pitch ideas to a faculty committee that meets once in spring and once in fall and then if chosen, will oversee all aspects of the production with a faculty advisor functioning as executive producer. The increased budget and larger scope of the Geaux Films results in larger sets with more resources and crew members to manage. For this reason, students functioning in producer, director, DP, or other major roles are eligible for credits towards THTR 4735.  Students participating in the Geaux Film for credit must enroll in the THTR 4735 in the spring of the academic year in which the film is shot.  Retroactive awarding of credit will not be permitted.

Film and Television Equipment Office

Equipment checkout services are allowed for currently enrolled LSU School of Theatre students, faculty, and staff only. Order of priority to access of equipment is:

1. Current student projects for class credit, including Geaux Films and Tiger Grants

2. Delta Rouge or other department-adjacent filming activities

3. In-class use or departmental business

Only current LSU students can make reservations and pick up/return equipment to the Equipment Office.  Students must abide by specific policies and procedures as outlined in the Film Production Safety Handbook available online.

The Film and Television Equipment Office is located in the basement of the Music and Dramatic Arts Building.  Hours for the Film and Television Equipment Office vary by semester.

Tiger Grant Program

The Tiger Grant Program is designed to support up to two independent short films per semester.  Grants of $250 will be awarded through a competitive proposal process to support non-personnel production costs involved in shooting films of any genre.

To qualify, films must be directed and produced by departmental students, with the majority of the crew being students in the department. Judging will be based on project feasibility, strength of script, and a statement on what the funds will be used for. Preference will be given to projects that have been pitched during past Geaux Film pitches.
