Education
Dr. Maya Mikdash is an applied microeconomist with research interests in labor economics,
law and economics, and economics of
education. Her work leverages causal inference methods to study policy-relevant questions
within these fields. In previous work, Dr. Mikdash focused on studying policing in
the United States. Her work on indigent defense has shown that race plays an important
role in the legal representation of low-income defendants. In addition to her work
on policing and crime, she studied the effect of voltage quality on economic activity
in Ghana. Currently, Dr. Mikdash is focused on understanding the impact of access
to free Pre-K on long-term labor market and educational outcomes.
