LSU Health New Orleans Partners with India’s Top Engineering University to Transform Global Health Research

LSU Health New Orleans has entered into a strategic partnership with India's top-ranked engineering university, leveraging the strengths of both institutions to accelerate research and expand their global health impact.

The collaboration blends LSUHS-NO's clinical expertise of with the technical innovation of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Matras), resulting quick development and deployment of new technologies.
LSUHS-NO Chancellor Dr. Steve Nelson said the partnership supports the institution's pursuit of a National Cancer Institute Designation for the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center, while providing additional benefits to Louisiana and beyond.
“We are building a powerful mechanism to move discoveries from bench to bedside and improve health outcomes in Louisiana and worldwide,” he said.
Joint teams will lead genomic and health studies and develop scalable tools like AI-powered
apps, affordable
diagnostics, and smart medical devices. An exchange program will support student and
faculty collaboration with new research and entrepreneurship efforts, expanding the
partnership’s reach.
IIT Madras, ranked India’s top university for nine consecutive years, hosts one of Asia’s most active deep-tech ecosystems. Its Research Park supports more than 200 startups and offers over 1.2 million square feet of innovation space.
The partnership aims to position LSUHSC-NO among the nation’s top 50 academic health centers by 2030, while enhancing IIT Madras’s global engagement in applied health research.
Both institutions plan to expand into additional biomedical areas, deepening their global impact on health innovation.
