Dr. Yitshak Ram Remembered for His Contributions to Teaching and Research
May 25, 2015 | LSU Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering
"Brilliant mind, unique sense of humor, the kindest of hearts, battered by tragedy but not beaten, find peace in God's fold, while we remember, Yitshak, shalom..." --Dr. Dimitris Nikitopoulos
LSU's College of Engineering mourns the loss of Dr. Yitshak Ram, a professor in Mechanical
Engineering and holder of the Wooley Professorship in Mechanical Engineering.   Dr.
Ram joined the mechanical engineering program in 1999 after completing his Ph.D. in
mechanical engineering from Technion University in Israel and teaching abroad in Hong
Kong and Australia.     He served his department and university judicially for more
than 15 years devoting  his time to research in the areas of dynamics, vibration and
control.   To that end, he successfully published more than 75 journal articles, three
book chapters and co-authored the book, Mathematical Modeling: Concepts and Case Studies.
When not in the lab, Dr. Ram greatly supported the teaching agenda of the department
during his tenure by teaching Dynamics, Kinematics, Advanced Vibrations, Numerical
Methods in Applied Mechanics, Engineering Use of Electronic Computers, Mechanical
                  Vibrations and Advanced Dynamics.
"Dr. Ram was an astute professor who cared deeply for our students and their success,"
said Rick Koubek, Dean of LSU's College of Engineering.  "He will be greatly missed
by his faculty peers and those students whom he served."
To honor his memory, the department has established the Yitshak Ram Memorial Scholarship
for Undergraduate Studies. Those wishing to contribute may make donations via the
LSU Foundation or by contacting Dr. Dimitris Nikitopoulos, chair of the department
                  via email at medimi@lsu.edu.
